Hops in Bales – RB 60

Form of Hop
Hops in bales are pressed bales RB 60 or in Farmer bales.

Description of Process
When the hop cones have reached the proper maturity the hop vines are cut from the hop trellises in the fields. The vines are immediately transported to the picking machine which separates the hop cones from the stems and leaves. After separation the hop cones are conveyed to the hop kiln, where they are slowly dried to reduce the moisture to approximately max 11%. This drying process is typically completed within a day, after which time the dried hops are transferred to a cooling floor and allowed to cool back to room temperature. They are then baled into tightly packed cca 60 kg bales wrapped in burlap or synthetic material.

Stability
Hops in bales are relatively unstable and susceptible to adverse environmental conditions such as high temperature and excessive moisture. The brewing resins are less susceptible to this degradation if bales are stored at cold temperatures (3 – 5°C).

Weight
Bales weight from 50 – 65 kg.
